Shoulder Surgeries offered in our Los Angeles & Van Nuys location

Rotator Cuff Repair Surgery

Cuff Repair Surgery is an arthroscopic, or minimally invasive, procedure. It is done to help restore the function and flexibility of the shoulder while relieving the accompanying pain. This rotator cuff is made up of a network of four muscles and tendons that come together around the head of the humerus, or upper arm bone. Most rotator cuff injuries are a result of chronic wear and tear or repetitive stress, rather than one specific incident.

Capsular Release

Capsular Release is an arthroscopic procedure that is commonly used to alleviate a frozen shoulder. A frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition that causes pain and stiffness in the joint as stiff bands of tissue develop in the shoulder capsule. Surgical treatment involves cutting through the stiffened tissue in order to release the shoulder and restore range of motion.

Labral Repair

Labral Repair uses arthroscopic techniques to repair tears to the labrum. The labrum is a rim of cartilage that surrounds the shoulder socket and helps stabilize it. Surgery is done on the labrum to repair the torn areas and correct any problems using anchors and/or sutures.

Total Shoulder Replacement

Total Shoulder Replacement helps restore comfort and function to shoulders that have suffered long-term wear and tear due to degenerative joint disease, osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis. Over 50,000 total shoulder replacements are performed each year. The procedure involves removing the damaged parts of the shoulder and replacing them with artificial prosthetic components.

Shoulder Hemiarthroplasty

Shoulder Hemiarthroplasty is similar to a total shoulder replacement except that it is used to replace a shoulder joint in which the damage is isolated to one part of the joint or the socket is too worn to replace or there is rotator cuff disease along with the arthritis. In this case, the ball part of the joint is removed while the socket part is left intact.

Shoulder Fracture Surgery

Shoulder Fracture Surgery or broken shoulder surgery, is an open surgery that is often done through a small incision measuring just a few inches in the front of the shoulder. These incisions give the surgeon access to the underlying shoulder structure. Once here, the surgeon is able to assess the condition of the shoulder and reassemble the fractured shoulder bone pieces and fix them with a plate and screws.

What Happens After Shoulder Surgery?

Recovery time from shoulder surgery depends on a variety of factors, including the type of surgery performed and how healthy you were before the surgery. After shoulder surgery, you will most likely be prescribed physical therapy to help regain movement and range of motion in your shoulder. To help reduce the risk of further injury, we may recommend continuing working with a physical therapist even after your normal functioning returns. No matter what type of treatment you need, shoulder surgeon Dr. Raj Ahluwalia will provide detailed guidelines for you to follow for a safe and successful recovery and rehabilitation period.
